As you know Google has change a lots of changes in Search engine optimization techniques, so today I’m giving some most important SEO techniques for 2014 that you must follow for your website on-page SEO to get better result on search engines.
META TAGS is important now for on-page SEO, You must add following META Tags on your web page/post:
- Title tag: Your <title> tag is the place to put your page’s best keywords. As Search engines terms, will show maximum 70 characters, So always try to make your title tag is less than 70 characters. The title should be according to your page; try to use the long tail keyword within the title tag.
- Description tag: In this tag you describe your page content. Try to use your most competitive keywords in the text and make sure your title and description match with your contents. Use no more than 155 characters here as search engines rule.
- Keywords tag: Although Google said that Keyword tag does not affect your SEO rankings but there are many other search engines, who still use tag for site ranking. You can target your 6 most competitive keywords within the tag and also make sure this tags content is similar with your title, description and content.
- Heading tags: In your website for each page/post add H1 tag for title or main headings/sections. Then after main heading try to add h2, h3, h4 tags and so on. These Heading tags search engines catch easily so use your keywords in these tags and highlight them in the eye of search engines.
SEO friendly images: Use Low size images and optimize each image with ALT and Title tags. Image name can also be optimized; try to use the keywords smartly within the ALT and title tags as well. Search engine friendly URL: In your site pages/posts URLs don’t use signs like &, Spaces, ?, etc otherwise it can come across as spammy. If you using wordpress change default permalink setting to post name permalinks or ask your developer to make the URLs look easy to read, short and clean. You can use your keywords as well.
Quality Content is King: As we all know “Content is King” in the SEO industry. Content is the main power of a website to get visitors and rank on search engines. So always try to add great quality content regularly and follow a time frame, like if you post 5 articles each week then do the same for next week, not like that this week you have post 10 articles but next week only 1 article. Each post/page should have a minimum 500 words of unique content.
Site navigation: Always design your site navigation user friendly that user can access your website content easily. Also make sure your navigation is crawlable, whether it be text or image based and be away from using of flash navigation.
Internal linking: Internal linking will help you to keep your visitors/users in the website. Internal linking will also help you to control the bounce rate as well and search engines like this.
External pages linking: Add related external links in your post/pages such as youtube videos, news, definition etc. Adding high quality website (not just popular website) resources links in your content builds a good relation in the eye of search engines and this trust will help the websites to get higher positions on search engines.
GEO-tagging: Some of search engines show results according to user location so use geo-tagging to let your users and search engines see your actual business location.
Verify Google Authorship:
For rich snippets on search results of your website post/pages verify your authorship with Google authorship program to take the ownership of the content you publish on your websites.
Social media is best source for getting visitors on your website and websites with social signals can get better rankings in search engines. So create your site profile on social media websites and add social media buttons to encourage your readers to share your website’s content on their profiles.
XML sitemap: Creating and submitting a Sitemap helps make sure that Search engines knows about all the pages on your website, including URLs that may not be discoverable by Search engine’s normal crawling process. So its important to create xml sitemap and add each of your website pages links in it. You can submit your sitemap to Google and Bing webmaster tools to make sure your website index soon.
Robots.txt: Robots.txt is a text (not html) file you put on your website root directory to tell search engines robots which pages you would like them not to visit. If you think there is nothing in your website that search engines will not visit, still just add it as for a complement of on-page SEO.
Analytics: Sign up for google analytics and setup the analytics code in your website so you can properly analyze your website.
Webmaster tools: Add and verify the ownership of your websites via Google Webmaster Tools. These webmaster tools will also help to analyze the on-page validations.
Fixed broken links: Broken links is very bad for search engine ranking, always find and fixed broken links of your website. If you change any links make it redirect from old link to new link. For wordpress there has lots of plugin to check broken links and fixing, you can try “Broken link checker” . for other website you can check broken link with “Brokenlinkcheck.com” Find and fix those broken links as soon as you find them.
Web Hosting: Use reliable and fast web server hosting for your website, don’t run from cheap cost hosting services. When you choose hosting provider make sure there server running 24/7, with at least 99.9% uptime. A website with too much downtime can be de-indexed from and won’t be able to rank higher on search engines.
